Still Growing, Still Going, Still You

August is a good month to remember: there is no age limit on enjoying life.

Sometimes getting older is talked about as if life becomes smaller. Fewer places to go. Fewer things to try. Fewer reasons to get excited.

But this season of life can still be filled with laughter, friendships, new experiences, purpose, and plenty of good days.

Do Something Just Because You Enjoy It

Not everything has to be productive.

Sit outside with your morning coffee. Call the friend who always makes you laugh. Put on your favorite music. Take a drive. Work a puzzle. Try a new recipe. Visit somewhere you haven't been in a while.

Small moments of enjoyment matter.

Keep Your Mind and Body Engaged

You don't have to make big changes. Start small.

Take a short walk. Stretch while watching television. Read something interesting. Work a crossword or word search. Learn how to use a new feature on your phone. Attend an event in your community.

Keeping engaged is one way to keep life interesting.

Stay Connected

One of the best things we can do for ourselves is stay connected to other people.

This month, make it a point to reach out to someone. Invite a friend to lunch, check on a neighbor, attend a church or community activity, or spend some time with family.

And if you know someone who may be spending a lot of time alone, reach out to them too. Your phone call may mean more than you realize.

A Little August Challenge

Before August ends, try to do these five things:

  • Call someone you haven't talked to lately.

  • Do something that makes you laugh.

  • Spend a little time outdoors.

  • Try something different—even something small.

  • Write down one thing you're thankful for.

Most importantly, don't count yourself out.

There are still memories to make, people to meet, things to learn, places to go, and reasons to smile.

You're still here. You're still growing. And you've still got plenty of living to do.

A Scripture for the Month

“I will be your God throughout your lifetime—until your hair is white with age.” — Isaiah 46:4 (NLT)

Whatever season you're in, you don't walk through it alone.

Until next time, Stay Anchored.
